COURTS CEO, Harry Higashiura: Focus on upgrading 13 local stores in the next two years.

COURTS, a major electrical and furniture retailer celebrating its 50th anniversary in Singapore this year, plans to invest and upgrade its 13 existing local stores over the next two years.

They're also looking for opportunities to expand their local store network to meet changing consumer needs and habits.

Harry Higashiura:, the CEO of Courts Singapore and Malaysia, who is also the Chief Commercial Officer of Courts Asia, was given the task of developing the Singapore market. He initially encountered some unexpected challenges but has since focused on the company's strengths and advantages to provide better service to customers. He mentioned that one challenge of operating in the Singapore market is the convenience of public transport. Consumers can easily compare prices at malls just a few MRT stations away, so COURTS must constantly ensure their prices are competitive. He also shared that COURTS is exploring new product categories and has started live-streaming on Facebook to reach consumers. Surprisingly, customers have even visited stores to purchase products seen on the live stream. Harry believes that physical stores are still essential for large electrical and furniture retailers like COURTS, despite the growing popularity of online shopping. And he emphasized the importance of providing customers with in-store assistance and explanations.
