Singapore, 5 December 2019 – COURTS Singapore, the leading retailer of home electronics, IT and furniture products, today donated over S$30,000 worth of home necessities to 13 needy families under the care of Care Community Services Society (CCSS). The fourth and final chapter this year for COURTS Charity Home, which connects COURTS’ CSR efforts with underprivileged communities during festive periods, fulfils the Christmas wishes of children and their families to complete their home needs. 14 COURTS employees volunteered to personally deliver these items to their homes in MacPherson, and celebrate Christmas together over dinner and games.

Ahead of the festive season, COURTS worked with CCSS to find out the wishes of children from disadvantaged family backgrounds. Living in rental flats and under the Financial Assistance Scheme, these children and their families wished for items such as sofas, beds and electrical appliances to complete their home and family needs this Christmas. 14 COURTS staff volunteered to deliver many of these items to their doorsteps, greeting the families and helping them set up or move in their new items.
COURTS Singapore Marketing Director, Ms Tammy Teo and Executive Director of CCSS, Mr Dewin Lee paid a visit to one of these families to personally deliver household necessities and Christmas goodies. Izaack, Shakini and Martin Nesakumar (9, 11 and 12 respectively), together with their mum, Ida Suriani Abdullah, 41, had wished for a new fridge and sofa to replace their old and worn sets, and a rice cooker to cook simple meals for themselves. Across the 13 homes, furniture needs such as brand new sofas, beds and wardrobes, as well as home appliances including washing machines, refrigerators and ovens, were fulfilled by COURTS.
Mdm Ida Abdullah, a single mother with four children and currently unemployed due to a rib injury, was delighted upon receiving the items: “I am so thankful to COURTS for sponsoring a new fridge, sofa and rice cooker, all of which are very much needed. Our old fridge was not working well, and my sofa was a stained second-hand set that the previous owner wanted to dispose. Now my children and I have a comfortable place to rest in the day, and can cook meals with fresh ingredients.”
Added Martin Nesakumar, d’Klub beneficiary: “I wished for a rice cooker this Christmas so my mum can have an easier time cooking for the family. I can also easily cook rice or porridge for myself and my siblings now. We are thankful to COURTS for granting our Christmas wishes for a brighter home, and will be happier to spend time at home this school holidays!”
Shared Ms Tammy Teo (张丽明), 42, Marketing Director of COURTS Singapore: “Wrapping up our inaugural year of COURTS Charity Home, our signature CSR programme, we are delighted to grant the Christmas wishes of children for new sofas, beds and appliances for a more comfortable environment to call home. The programme has also been well-received by our employees, who enjoyed bonding with our community over the festive periods. Here’s wishing all Singaporeans a Merry Christmas from COURTS!”
After the home deliveries, COURTS volunteers hosted the children and families to a simple Christmas buffet dinner and presented them with Christmas gifts and handwritten cards, personally wrapped and written by them for each child.
Shared Ms Irene Zheng (郑晓丽), 34, COURTS Charity Home staff volunteer: “It’s my second time volunteering for COURTS Charity Home, and it will definitely not be my last. Delivering needed items, spending time with the children and their families, and seeing them so happy makes my Christmas even merrier too!”
Shared Mr Dewin Lee (李文豪), 49, CCSS Executive Director: “It is indeed the most wonderful time of the year! We are grateful to COURTS for bringing comfort to families and homes during this season of giving by fulfilling the children’s wishes through COURTS Charity Home. It has been a great year of collaboration with COURTS as we journey together to make a positive difference in the lives of families we serve. We at CCSS are very thankful for COURTS’ support and generosity.”
COURTS Charity Home 2019 has totalled contributions of over S$92,000 worth of needed home furnishings and electrical appliances, benefitting over 400 senior citizens and children. In total, over 65 COURTS staff have volunteered their time through this programme to connect with underprivileged communities including the elderly and children in Singapore.
