COURTS Malaysia Retains the Humble Ramadhan Tradition with Free Bubur Lambuk Giveaways
Retailer strengthens ties with customers and the community during the holy fasting month with distribution of the season’s favourite dish at 20 COURTS stores nationwide
Kuala Lumpur, 29 May 2019 – Bubur lambuk is a time-honoured tradition for Malaysians every Ramadan as people gather in large groups to prepare the savoury porridge together. Continuing the tradition for the 2nd year, COURTS Malaysia celebrated the spirit of giving with the distribution of hearty packs of bubur lambuk at selected COURTS stores nationwide. The initiative by the country’s leading electrical, IT, and furniture retailer, was a gesture of appreciation to give back to customers and the communities it operates in, that have supported the brand over the years.
Packs of bubur lambuk were cooked and personally handed over to customers by COURTS employees starting with a grand 1-day event at Shah Alam that provided not just bubur lumbuk and iftar, but numerous fun filled activities hosted by COURTS volunteers. This was followed by giveaways at Setapak, Kajang, Sri Damansara, Bukit Tinggi, Puchong Jaya, Rawang (Central); Malacca, Seremban, Giant Plentong, Kip Mart Tampoi, Johor Bahru (Southern); Ipoh, Sungai Petani, Penang Tesco (Northern); Kuantan, Kota Bahru (Eastern); Miri, Kuching, (Sarawak) and Karamunsing (Sabah). The activity saw guardians, children and members of the public from all walks of life enjoy this close-knit event with love and laughter.
At COURTS Shah Alam in Selangor, volunteers prepared this comfort food and treated each customer and member with this hot and delicious dish. COURTS employees volunteered side by side with celebrities Mya Zulkifli and Shaheizy Sam as well as children from the Asrama Damai Rumah Anak-Anak Yatim home of Budimas Charitable Foundation. Mya Zulkifli is a key opinion leader with over 150,000 followers on Instagram and also juggles between multiple roles of being a TV host and a journalist cum producer for local news and entertainment events.
“We are blessed with the opportunity to give back to the community again this year during the holy month of Ramadhan and to wish each and every Muslim friend and customer Ramadan Mubarak and thank them for their love and support. As a retailer committed to providing superior value to our customers, we also remain dedicated to contributing to the well-being of the communities around us. We’re happy to connect and celebrate with our customers and the local community as they shop for great deals while enjoying a favourite Ramadan treat,” said Dominic Wong, Group Chief Operating Officer of COURTS Malaysia.
Celebrities Mya Zulkifli and Shaheizy Sam, built up the excitement and spread the word through their social media pages and then at COURTS Shah Alam as they joined in the cooking and distribution of the bubur lambuk. They also interacted and played a host of games with the crowd. Thereafter, customers, guests and volunteers were treated to a special iftar hosted by COURTS.
“I am thrilled to be a part of COURTS Malaysia’s Ramadan initiative and to celebrate this meaningful event. It is a wonderful experience to share the festivities with everyone and to support COURTS’ efforts in being a caring contributor to our community,” said Shaheizy Sam.
Sam’s sentiments were echoed by Mya Zulkifli who said, “It was heartwarming to meet fans everyone and hand out the delicious bubur lambuk prepared to everyone. Thanks to COURTS for recognising the value of community bonding and bringing people together for such a lovely session”.
The essence of the event ties back to the yearlong ‘Sumbangan Memupuk Perpaduan’(Everyday Malaysians, Together) campaign where COURTS Malaysia sells branded tote bags across all stores, the proceeds of which go to empowering and helping underprivileged children at the Budimas Charitable Foundation.
The Ramadan bubur lambuk giveaway is one of many corporate social responsibility initiatives COURTS Malaysia has carried out over the years through its Rumah Amal COURTS programme, which was launched in 2015. As an organisation that prioritises the welfare of the communities it operates in, COURTS continues its ongoing commitment to help and provide the less fortunate with a better quality of life. To date, the charitable contributions made through Rumah Amal COURTS have totalled over RM700,000 and have reached over 120 homes and communities nationwide. The programme aims to provide basic household necessities, such as furniture and electrical items, to homes in need.
