COURTS Asia Announces Changes To Senior Leadership Team
SINGAPORE, 30 July 2019 – COURTS Asia Limited (“COURTS Asia” and together with its subsidiaries, “the Group”) (阁室亚洲有限公司), one of the region’s leading electrical, IT and furniture retailers, today announced senior leadership changes. With effect from 1 August, Mr Hoang Duc Thanh (Matthew) will be the newly appointed Group Chief Operating Officer (COO), in addition to his role as Executive Director. Mr Dominic Wong will be redesignated as Group Chief Strategy Officer (CSO) and Country CEO of COURTS Malaysia whilst Mr Ben Tan, Country CEO of COURTS Singapore has expressed his desire to pursue other interests and is currently serving his notice.
Having started on the retail shopfloor, Mr Hoang worked his way up the ranks, acquiring extensive operations and management experience throughout his career in retail. Tasked to lead overseas projects, Mr Hoang was instrumental in driving Nojima’s venture in Vietnam in 2013 and setting up its Cambodia operations in 2014, turning the Cambodia business from a loss to a profit-making enterprise within one year. More recently, he was involved in the acquisition of COURTS Asia Limited in April 2019.
As Group COO, Mr Hoang is responsible for the day-to-day operations of COURTS Asia, driving business implementation, realising synergies and implementing best practices across markets. He reports directly to Mr Hiroshi Nojima, Group CEO. COURTS’ regional senior leadership team as well as the Country CEOs will report to him.
Mr Dominic Wong, who joined COURTS as Group COO in 2018, has been redesignated as Group CSO of COURTS Asia and Country CEO of COURTS Malaysia. The operational transformation for Malaysia he is leading has delivered three consecutive quarters of profit before tax between the second quarter to the fourth quarter for the financial year ended 31 March 2019. He will continue to focus on the project in Malaysia in the near term. To cement COURTS Malaysia’s position as a leading electronics retailer, Mr Wong is implementing a series of store refurbishments to drive productivity and improve customer experience.
COURTS Malaysia will also be making strategic expansion into underpenetrated areas under his leadership.
“I am excited to work with a highly talented team offering combined decades’ worth of retail experience to take COURTS Asia into the next chapter. Southeast Asia is a dynamic and diverse region, offering opportunities for growth. With Nojima Corporation, a 60-year retail industry veteran as a long-term strategic owner, we are able to invest and build a sustainable business for the future. In line with the owner’s mindset embraced by Nojima Corporation, COURTS is focused on developing meaningful relationships with employees, customers and partners for win-win outcomes,” said Mr Hoang Duc Thanh (Matthew), Group COO of COURTS Asia.
A post-integration team will lead efforts to drive synergies, economies of scale and growth potential for the Group.
